The debate over "Economic cooperation between France and Canada: a challenge
for innovation and competitivity".
The Ambassadors answered three main questions :
-
Why are French-Canadian economic and political relations valuable for both
our economies?
-
Why is innovation and competitivity a key to economic growth?
-
What lesson did you learn during your mandate as ambassador and would you
want to give advice to future investors?
A good investment environment, an access to the European
and American market and the proximity between our cultures were especially
mentioned as key elements in the excellent French-Canadian relationship,
before debating with participants, about 90 people. In order to face the challenges awaiting us, they also insisted on
the value of bilateral projects, estimated at a thousand in 2004.

Claude Laverdure :
More than a hundred of people from the French and Canadian business community attended this traditional meeting : members of the Chamber of Commerce and key contacts from different institutions in relationship with the CCFC.
The Ambassador Claude Laverdure reminded the growing role of the Chamber of Commerce France-Canada since its creation by Jean Vinant in April 1956, as a major actor in the evolution of the links between the two countries. He pointed out the efforts of the Chamber of Commerce France-Canada, and considered they were part of a global process which guarantees excellent relationships between France and Canada that have never been better than nowadays. He also mentioned the gradual development of a new range of services for Canadian companies wishing to expand their business on the French market. This initiative should participate to increase the number of the CCFC's members.
The President of the Chamber of Commerce France-Canada, Mr Jean-Claude Brognaux presented the results of the different actions led by the CCFC in the last two years and focused on the boosting of its activities : a new communication strategy, implementation of a new generation of website, an intensive program of conferences, extended network of French and Canadian members, strengthened relationships with Canadian universities.
He also mentioned some of the main coming challenges for the CCFC : acting as a priviledged partner for the French and Canadian small and medium sized companies, developing connections with the English speaking Provinces besides the priviledged relations with the Province of Quebec, and the organization of the 50th anniversary of the CCFC in 2006.
